Zhalo in Honeycomb: The World Beyond — Tracker, Nests & the Zhalo Tree
The Zhalo in Honeycomb: The World Beyond — an animal family behind two tracker fixes, a Hotfix #5 nest species, and the tree a player mistook for the lonebid tree.
FAQ
What does the Zhalo tracker do?
Why can't I find a Zhalo?
What is a Zhalo?
The Zhalo is an animal family in Honeycomb: The World Beyond — known so far through its paper trail rather than its looks. Its first official appearance is the September 11 Hotfix #3 notes, which mention a Zhalo tracking pointer; Hotfix #4 finished fixing that pointer three days later; and the September 15 Hotfix #5 notes name the Zhalo among the nine species whose built nests produce animal materials (see the taming & nests guide).
No official artwork or species description exists, and no player report on this site’s sources describes the animal itself. What the community has documented is around the Zhalo — its tracker, its tree, and its findability — and that is what this page collects. The Canul is the sibling case: another Hotfix #5 name whose page is built on community reports.
Why did the Zhalo tracker need two fixes?
The patch notes tell it directly:
- Hotfix #3 (September 11): the Zhalo tracking pointer no longer references the Silver Wox — before the fix, the pointer referenced a different family.
- Hotfix #4 (September 14): the Hotfix #3 fix “did not cover every case” — the tracker now leads you to the Zhalo family correctly.
The two-step history is on the patch notes tracker. What the tracker is for — a Compendium entry, a quest, or a survey objective — is not stated in the notes and remains undocumented.
What is the zhalos tree?
That is the entirety of the public description: a zhalos tree exists, it resembles the lonebid tree, and scanning the wrong one wastes a scan. Whether the tree is the Zhalo’s nest, its food source, or simply a species named after it is not documented. If your Azurite Lonebid scanning is not registering, check which tree you are pointing at first.
Is the Zhalo hard to find?
Two player reports from launch-week discussions suggest it can be:
- One player reported that only Thessalika variants of the Zhalo and the Nango were findable in their game — see the Thessalika Nango, itself a Thessalika-named species. Neither variant list nor spawn rules are official.
- Another player reported Zhalo-family scans showing up as unknown entries on the map, which makes cataloguing harder even when the animal is present.
Neither report is officially confirmed, and the tracker fixes above may already cover part of the trouble. But if the variants report holds, it matters beyond the Compendium: the rarest documented tier of achievements includes Xeno zoologist — hybrid every animal possible, at 0.4% of players — and a family you cannot find is a family you cannot hybrid.
Zhalo nests and materials
Since Hotfix #5 (September 15, 2026), a nest you build produces the same animal materials as a wild one, and the Zhalo is one of the nine named producing species: materials appear once animals move in and scale with more settlers. The placement rules and the full nine-species table are in the taming & nests guide. Whether Zhalos specifically settle into player-built nests is not yet documented.
What is still unknown about the Zhalo?
- Appearance — no official image, no player morphology description; even “wolf-like”-level sketches — the standard the Canul page works from — do not exist for this one.
- Zone — no location report in this site’s sources; the page deliberately carries no biome tag.
- The variant roster — only Thessalika variants have been reported, in a single unconfirmed account.
- What the tracker belongs to — a Compendium entry, a quest, or a survey objective is not stated anywhere official.
The wider roster starts at the creatures hub; the patch notes tracker carries the Zhalo’s official mentions as they accumulate.
