What quests does the story have?
The official patch notes through September 17, 2026 name six quests, and this guide walks each one — what it asks, which hotfix changed it, and where players get stuck. The order below follows how they surface in the notes; treat it as a map, not a verified flowchart:
| Quest | First named in | What it involves |
|---|---|---|
| Miracle Season | Hotfix #3 notes | The main storyline — including crafting Plant Booster darts |
| Building Minion | Hotfix #1 notes | Pinning your first blueprint |
| Second Life | Hotfix #3 notes | Building and feeding a Composter |
| Mystery Beacon | Hotfix #2 notes | A beacon, a figurine, and a door |
| The Rumble | Hotfix #3 notes | A story beat that begins beyond the beacon’s sealed area |
| Dust Storm | Hotfix #4 preview | A Memory Core ordering bug — fixed in Hotfix #7 |
For the game’s other systems — scanning, crossbreeding, taming, building — see the hubs linked at the bottom; for the biggest story gate of all, the valley-exit guide covers the community-documented route out of the starting valley.
Miracle Season — the main storyline
Miracle Season is the questline the launch-window patches keep touching. Two documented details:
- Plant Booster darts. When Miracle Season asks you to craft the dart, an in-game guide appears automatically (added in Hotfix #3). The dart accelerates plant growth — see the tools guide for the aiming mechanic players get wrong.
- Completion unlocks Second Life — Hotfix #3 grants the new quest to players who already finished Miracle Season the moment they load their save.
Building Minion — your first blueprint
A small but important early quest: it asks you to pin a blueprint. Hotfix #1 safeguards the timing — the blueprints screen unlocks the moment this quest needs it, so the objective can no longer arrive while the screen is locked. If you are staring at a locked blueprints screen in the opening hour, this quest is the key; the base building hub covers what to do with it.
Second Life — the Composter chain
Added in Hotfix #3: after Miracle Season, build a Composter, feed it plant matter, and wait for it to produce biomass — one of the three fertilizer ingredients (the full recipe is in the blockers section below). The Composter guide covers the developer-confirmed biomass loop. Players who finished Miracle Season before the patch receive the quest on their next save load.
Mystery Beacon — the figurine and the door
The patch history tells most of this story:
- The door closes behind you once the quest completes (Hotfix #2)
- Once past it you cannot leave via Unstuck or by dying — you wake up in place — until the Rumble begins (Hotfix #3)
- Hotfix #5 added the escape hatch: after the Mystery Beacon, the pedestal offers an “Open the passage” prompt that opens the door without the figurine, working even on saves that predate the fix
Two figurine facts, not yet connected: the patch notes reference a figurine for the passage door, and a German-language thread locates a Nessie figurine for a southern gate in the same southern area as the Ebony Linter flora — “or the other Lindner”, as the report put it. Whether the two figurines are the same item is not established.
The Rumble — sealed in until it starts
The Rumble is the story beat that ends the beacon’s sealed-area rule — “everything returns to normal once the Rumble begins” (Hotfix #3). Its launch-week blocker was the cave passage: players who exited the cave through the entrance instead of the balcony were locked out, unable to reach the Rumble at all. Hotfix #5 fixed the passage with the pedestal prompt above, and the door now stays open once the Rumble starts. The full fix history is in the patch notes tracker.
Dust Storm — fixed in Hotfix #7
The Dust Storm quest was the last known-broken quest: its fix sat among the deferred fixes from the Hotfix #5 announcement until Hotfix #7 shipped it on September 17, 2026. What was wrong, and what the fix does now:
- Objectives used to complete incorrectly if you collected the Memory Core before the Dust Storm quest started. They now complete correctly — saves you already have are checked when you load them, and steps you have already done are completed automatically
- A blocked Dust Storm could also leave “Decrypting Lake’s Mysteries” stuck. That quest now completes when the Mystery Core is already set in the wall, and this too applies to existing saves when you load them
The blockers players actually hit
Two more walls from launch-week threads, both community-solved or community-mapped:
- The northeast gate wants a plant. A German-language thread reports a northeastern gate that opens with a specific plant — which plant remains unanswered in the thread. The southern gate, by contrast, takes the Nessie figurine (see Mystery Beacon above).
- The fertilizer recipe. Horn shards + biomass + canul canine — the tooth of the wolf-like Canul. A player’s directions: head northwest of the starting location, past the marsh with hostile on-sight birds, up the hill to the right of a waterfall, and pull the log wedged in the rocks; the wolves nest beyond. The Canul is also one of the nine nest-material species in the taming & nests guide.
How does the story end?
Per a community answer from launch week — the deepest endgame picture documented so far:
- The story can end once you have the honey and a Lonebid hybrid — both products of the crossbreeding system (crossbreeding guide, and the Azurite Lonebid is the Valley’s Lonebid species)
- It concludes when you cross a portal — and a save is made automatically right before the portal, so the ending is not a point of no return; you return to your world afterwards
- The same player’s progress markers hint at the long tail: every Memory Core, crossbreeding completion, and 24 crash sites to find — alongside the fauna and flora scanning that feeds the creatures and flora compendiums
Everything official on this page traces to the patch notes tracker; everything else traces to linked launch-week community threads — each section says which is which. Last checked September 18, 2026.
