The sections below carry the full change lists, condensed from the official announcements. For launch-day facts — price, editions, PC specs, review status — see the launch guide.
What did Hotfix #1 change? (September 9)
A stability pass, announced September 9:
- Critical crash fix: the game no longer shuts down when crafting tries to track items from a storage that no longer existed
- Slower item degradation: items carried in your inventory now degrade about half as fast as before (Hotfix #3 later revealed this had not actually applied to carried items — see below)
- Blueprints screen safeguard: the screen unlocks the moment the Building Minion quest asks you to pin a blueprint, so the objective can no longer arrive while it is locked
- Quest system safety checks: extra protection against errors when quest logic runs before the player character is fully ready
- Dialogue playback: voice-line priority and distance-based volume settings now apply consistently
What did Hotfix #2 change? (September 10)
The biggest update of the week — quality-of-life fixes plus Steam community items going live:
- Steam community items: badges (five main levels plus a foil badge), seven trading cards, five character emoticons, and profile backgrounds — past playtime counts toward card drops, so a few may already be waiting in your Steam inventory
- Item placement unlocked from the start: placing items and structures no longer waits for progression, on every difficulty
- Smarter dart gun reload: when no ammo type is selected, reloading auto-loads Sleep darts, falling back to Plant Booster darts
- More forgiving Unstuck: now also works when you are not standing on the ground but barely moving
- Drone controls: up/down moved to D-pad Up/Down on gamepad; leaving drone mode no longer needs a button combination
- Mystery Beacon door: now closes behind you once the quest is completed
- Inventory fixes: interaction prompts only appear once the trash can is fully built; inventory weight is recalculated when a save is loaded
- Map fixes: the “toggle all” filters button keeps individual filter states; hovering map icons and names works on consoles
- Text and localization: long translations no longer get cut off in Photo Mode, the Compendium, the Journal, map filters, settings switches, the feedback screen, and the game intro; key icons no longer stretch lines; switching language in-game applies immediately
- World & audio: an ambient sound zone with cave reverb was added at the Amberland landmark, and a collision barrier was added in one passage
What did Hotfix #3 change? (September 11)
Quests, balance, and another stability round — announced September 11:
- New quest — Second Life: after completing Miracle Season, a new quest asks you to build a Composter, feed it plant matter, and wait for it to produce biomass. Players who already finished Miracle Season receive the quest when they load their save
- Sealed area after the Mystery Beacon: once past the door, you can no longer leave via Unstuck or by dying — you wake up in place. Everything returns to normal once the Rumble begins
- New in-game guides: a Plant Booster Darts guide appears when Miracle Season asks you to craft the dart, and a Soil guide appears at your first soil sample; the Fast Travel guide moved to the World category and was fixed
- Plant decay applied to inventory: the slower degradation announced earlier was not actually applied to carried items — now it is: plants in your inventory decay over roughly 48 in-game hours
- Animal navigation in water: navigation blockers reworked in aquatic areas, rivers, and the market, so animals no longer path through water where they should not
- Animal behavior fixes: follow sounds now play with a cooldown; the Zhalo tracking pointer no longer references the Silver Wox; animal senses switch on and off without leaving crash-prone traces
- Interface fixes: item tooltips refresh when clicked or when filters change; the stack-split popup is wide enough for large quantities
- Crash fixes: closing a popup that paused the game, inspecting a plant outside a growpod, and crafting-station sounds failing to load no longer crash the game
What did Hotfix #4 change? (September 14)
Balance, storage, and shadow rendering — announced September 14:
- One durability setting for everything: a single difficulty setting now controls how fast everything you own wears out — tools, gear that drains while worn (gas mask, immunity pump, rebreather, light stick), the hoverboard, the drone, and food rotting in your inventory and containers. Plants growing out in the world are not affected. The rate is 1.0 on Scientist, 1.25 on Survivalist and 2.0 on Space Hell, and the Engineer slider goes up to 2.0
- Fainting penalty by difficulty: fainting now costs 5% durability on Scientist, 10% on Survivalist and 15% on Space Hell — before Hotfix #4 it was a flat 10% on every difficulty
- Slower rotting in storage: every container and every inventory now slows rotting to 15% of the world rate, the same protection the backpack always had. A powered fridge stops rotting completely
- Viper durability: the Viper now lasts about one in-game day of use
- No more Diodes in construction recipes: buildings no longer ask for Diodes, so progression is never stopped by a material you have not unlocked yet
- Crafting reach and refunds: crafting stations now pull ingredients from lockers across a full-size room, not only the ones standing right next to them, and ingredients spread across several containers are taken correctly — refunds now give back exactly what was used
- Zhalo tracker, critters, stability: the Zhalo pointer fix from Hotfix #3 did not cover every case — the tracker now leads you to the Zhalo family correctly; critters no longer occasionally sink into the ground on detailed terrain; safety checks were added around animal interactions, plants removed while still growing, and save loading
- World fixes: a thorn hazard floating above the ground, a rough terrain spot in the Grim Garden, and collision on the medium amber tree
- Interface and text: the “item broken” message now names the vehicle instead of showing an empty name, and a quest-description typo was fixed
- Shadow rendering: shadows moved to a more compatible method on every shadow quality level, which should remove the GPU crashes reported on some machines. Shadow range and quality were retuned along the way, and first-person hands and held items cast shadows again
What did Hotfix #5 change? (September 15)
Nests, a long-standing Rumble blocker, and the demo’s departure — announced September 15. Four of the fixes below were previewed in the Hotfix #4 post but missed that build and went live a day later; the rest shipped without a preview:
- Nest placement: weeds, bushes and trees no longer block nest placement and are cleared under the nest once it is built; nests tilt to follow gentle slopes with the front edge on the ground. Spots that are too steep, too uneven, on a cliff edge or in water still report that the structure does not reach the ground, and rocks, structures, the player and the drone still block placement. Buildings such as the garage also clear grass and flowers under them, and you can no longer build on top of interactive plants
- Built nests produce materials: nests you build now give the same animal materials as the ones you find in the world — the notes name Camilla, Canul, Lonebid, Nango, Nibis, Strider, Wox, Zhalo and Zuma. Materials appear once animals move in, and they scale with more settlers
- Cave passage (Rumble blocker): players who left the cave through the entrance instead of the balcony could not get back inside, which blocked the Rumble. Once the Mystery Beacon is complete, the pedestal offers an “Open the passage” prompt that opens the door without the figurine, and after the Rumble begins the door stays open — this works on saves you already have
- Scout drone objective: “Discover an underground deposit” completes the moment the scout drone starts scanning, if you play with automatic resource discovery turned on
- Composter collision and profiles: the Composter’s collision is fixed; deleting the profile you are playing moves you to another profile instead of leaving you without one, and slots without a screenshot show a default image
- First-launch benchmark: shader compilation no longer runs during the hardware benchmark, so the benchmark measures correctly
- Polish localization: the Amacure/Gemnox single-growpod planting objective is now named correctly in Polish
- The demo left Steam: announced in the same post — the developers explain that the demo is a pre-release build that “falls further behind with every hotfix” they ship, and that maintaining it would mean testing and shipping every change twice. The launch guide covers what this means for new buyers
What did Hotfix #6 change? (September 16)
Mostly for the completionists, announced September 16 — the Compendium cleanup and the producer range rings from earlier previews finally shipped here:
- Compendium cleanup: the entries that could never be unlocked (Hot Waters, Lead, Meteor Shard, Sapphire, Symbiolith) were removed; saves you already have are cleaned up when you load them, so the Compendium can be completed again
- Underground deposits: opening the boxes that unlock underground deposits now adds the Underground Deposits entry with full progress and re-checks the achievements tied to it — including for boxes you opened before
- Memory Core achievement: the achievement for placing all Memory Cores in the Archivarium wall now unlocks when you place the last core, and it is granted on load if you already have them all in place
- Producer range rings: range rings on producers (miners, silos and the like) now show only while you have something selected to build; producers that are already built show a faded ring during placement, and the silo ring is no longer on screen all the time
- Nango sounds: the Nango now has a full set of sounds — petting and scratches, eating, sleeping, resting, sitting, sniffing, getting scared, fainting, the rustle of its armour, plus reactions when it likes or dislikes something; Camilla’s fainting and reaction sounds were updated as well
- Volcano tunnel: the remaining openings in the volcano tunnel were sealed
What did Hotfix #7 change? (September 17)
Quest repairs and builder quality-of-life — announced September 17:
- Dust Storm quest: objectives now complete correctly if you collected the Memory Core before the Dust Storm quest was triggered. Saves you already have are checked when you load them, and steps you have already done are completed automatically
- Decrypting Lake’s Mysteries: fixed the quest not completing when the Mystery Core was already set in the wall — applied to existing saves as well, when you load them
- Sleeping bag repair: buildings that could not be demolished because of the sleeping-bag bug are repaired when you load your save, so you can take them down again. Sleeping bags now release the building only when you pick them up — quitting the game or moving between levels no longer leaves a building stuck
- Hoverboard on buildings: getting off the hoverboard over a floor that is being demolished no longer leaves that building impossible to demolish
- Sleeping bag indoors: a sleeping bag placed inside a building now switches to indoor lighting right away instead of after a reload, and it loads correctly in multi-room buildings
- Arachnophobia mode: the accessibility option now replaces insects with rubber ducks. Switching it updates the insects already in the world right away, no reload needed
- Amber Land: fixed a hole in the landscape
The same post announced three Steam publisher bundles celebrating the release — pairing Honeycomb with Builder Simulator, House Flipper 2, and the original House Flipper — and previewed the next round of work, below.
What did Hotfix #8 change? (September 21)
Achievement repairs, costume unlocks, and calmer nests — announced September 21:
- Geologist, narrowed: the geology achievement now requires only soil samples and hard materials rather than every Compendium entry. Saves you already have are re-checked when you load them
- Xeno zoologist costumes: fixed Hennessy’s new costumes failing to unlock in the garage mirror after earning that achievement — registering any new animal always unlocks its costume
- Hybrid achievements repaired: the first-animal, all-animal, and plant hybrid achievements are granted on save load based on the hybrids in your Compendium, repairing broken saves
- Friendly nests: animals in a nest that holds at least one friendly animal no longer turn protective or aggressive when you approach
- Dart gun auto reload: fixed the gun firing the wrong dart after auto-loading Sleep or Plant Booster darts
- Multiroom collision: fixed walking underneath the multiroom building
- Antenna sounds: antennas now have start-up, idle, and shut-down sounds that fade out when switched off or destroyed
- Stability: safety checks added around vegetation hidden by buildings, the map’s player marker, and the end-game popup
The same post again promotes the three Steam publisher bundles — with Builder Simulator, House Flipper 2, and the original House Flipper — and lists the next round of work, below.
What did Hotfix #9 change? (September 22)
A save-repair pass across the board — announced September 22:
- Empty nests rebuilt: nests that came back empty after loading a save now rebuild their population automatically, so animals no longer disappear from a nest for good
- Lost data boxes restored: data boxes you had already collected but a corrupted save had reset — for example a quest counter dropping from 23/24 back to 2/24 — are restored when you load, based on the blueprints you have unlocked
- Missing map icons restored: on saves that come up as corrupted, the plant, animal, and resource icons on the map are restored for every species already in your Compendium
- Animals lost during autosave: animals that appeared or were removed while an autosave was running were left out of the save file and vanished on the next load — fixed, along with the underlying cause, two objects being written over each other in the save
- Compendium achievements re-decided: the fauna, flora, and geology achievements are now decided by what is in your Compendium; saves where tracking was never set up or was incomplete grant them on load, as long as every required entry is known
- Nest navigation: animal navigation around the Imperial Strider, Sage Strider, and Nango nests was fixed
- Taming safety checks: added for animals that are removed while you are taming them or changing your reputation with them
The same post again promotes the three Steam publisher bundles and lists the next round of work, below.
What is still coming after Hotfix #9?
The Hotfix #9 announcement lists what is next, again with no dates attached. The empty-nest and missing-map-marker fixes previewed by Hotfix #8 shipped in #9 itself, widened into the save-repair pass above; the consumables rework keeps its shape — crafted dishes and drinks will give noticeably more than the sum of their ingredients, with effects of their own. The animal-reputation work named in Hotfix #7’s list is still not mentioned, and the Intel Core Ultra crash item that led the Hotfix #8 list no longer appears — the #9 post does not say whether it shipped or is still in the works.
- Buggy Unstuck: getting out of the buggy and using Unstuck when it ends up hanging in a tree — the previous “vehicles stuck in trees” item, now narrowed to the buggy
- Key-bindings overhaul: rebinding a key in one context — on foot, in the drone, in a vehicle — will no longer change the others, and conflicts will only be reported between contexts that can be active at the same time; the controls screen also gains proper gamepad support: separate bindings per device, button icons instead of names, and a confirmation before a key is taken away from another action
- Gameplay settings during a run: on Engineer you will be able to change gameplay settings mid-run, with a confirmation for the options that leave a permanent mark on the world; it also fixes settings that did not stick, difficulty quietly changing along with them, and immunity starting to drain earlier than it should
- Consumables rework: consumables are being reworked — crafted dishes and drinks will give noticeably more than the sum of their ingredients, with effects of their own
- Beepipes on loaded saves: Beepipes will stop losing their connection to the plant they pollinate after loading a save
How do you switch to the compatibility branch?
Launched alongside Hotfix #2, the compatibility branch is a stability-first build for players hitting persistent crashes or shader-compilation errors on older hardware:
- Right-click the game in your Steam library and open Properties
- In the beta/versions section, select compatibility
- Steam downloads the compatibility build automatically
If problems continue after switching, the developers point to the troubleshooting guide on the Steam discussion boards and their official Discord, both linked from the Hotfix #2 announcement.
Where is the next patch announced?
Every patch so far has been announced in the game’s official Steam news feed, usually within hours of going live. The same feed carried the pre-launch Sota7 survey-log series, which introduced the game’s zones — see the zones guide for what was previewed. This page is updated after each announcement; the launch guide tracks the other launch-window facts, and the game modes guide covers the four modes that shipped at launch.
