Where to Start in Honeycomb: The World Beyond
New player orientation for Honeycomb: The World Beyond — what kind of game it is, what the opening hours ask of you, and every launch-day guide we are building.
What kind of game is Honeycomb: The World Beyond?
Honeycomb: The World Beyond is a single-player, open-world sci-fi survival sandbox from developer Frozen Way and publisher Snail Games USA. You play Hennessy, a bioengineer sent by EON Corp to the alien planet Sota7 with one mission: catalogue a living ecosystem and use bioengineering to help save Earth’s barren one. There is no combat — the loop is scan, sample, experiment, build, and crossbreed.
What will your opening hours look like?
Expect a cataloguing-first start: explore a vibrant biome, scan unfamiliar plants and animals into your registry, and harvest samples with purpose-built tools (a chisel, secateurs, trowel, and cutting scissors) rather than one all-purpose tool. Early previews describe a tutorial that guides you toward your first shelter spot and experiments, with survival pressure that grows as you push into deeper biomes.
Guides we are building
Live now: the launch guide (price, platforms, demo status, PC specs), the game modes guide, the Sota7 zones guide (the Valley, the Headlands, and the Pass), the valley-exit guide — the community-documented route out of the starting valley and to the Omega Mutacore — plus the quest guide, the tools & gadgets guide, and the achievements guide covering all 28 Steam achievements. The systems side lives in the field hubs: taming & nests (the animal-materials loop) and crossbreeding for plants. This hub keeps growing into full walkthroughs as we verify them in the released game (live since September 8, 2026):
- Scanning, the Sota7 registry, and how sample analysis works
- Survival basics: status effects, food, and preparing for expeditions
The overview on this page was verified against the official site and the Steam page; the deeper guides each carry their own last-checked date.
